Charity shops facing issues with donated stamps

02 December 2018 11:56

News this weekend from the Charity Commission has highlighted potential problems for Charity Shops who collect and sell bags of used stamps (kilo ware).  Apparently criminal gangs are buying up these used stamps and washing them in a special chemical to remove the postmark.  The stamps are then offered for sale online as valid postage.  Charity shops have been told to avoid selling these stamps unless they are sure they are being purchased by genuine stamp collectors!  So be prepared to provide evidence of your hobby next time you want to buy some kilo ware from your local charity shop!
